TRE® (Tension Release Exercise) is an effective way to help your body release built-up stress that affects your daily life. In our busy culture, so many people carry around stress that lies deep in our muscles and can lead to long-term physical and psychological damage.
Ginger Peer Spencer has been a massage therapist for 18 years. Throughout her time as a practitioner she began to notice that her some of her clients seemed deeply stressed, even while receiving a massage that should have allowed them to release tension. Through research she discovered the program and became certified as a TRE® provider.
When using TRE®, it is not necessary to talk about any traumatic experiences or reliving difficult moments during the sessions. These exercises are designed to allow the body to release built up tension and trauma naturally. This could be retained in our bodies through everyday stress or through severe trauma (both physical as well as psychological).
Most people believe that once an experience has passed it is simply over, but each traumatic experience leaves its mark, etching a very deep wound mentally and physically. The TRE® process allows the body to literally shake off deeply held stress and trauma that can affect everyday life.
Based on the fundamental function of our bodies, TRE® works by creating the natural tremors that occur when we are nervous, scared or angry. This natural tremor is what we see when our hands shake before speaking in public or after an argument. We also notice it after being frightened or when we are simply nervous about an upcoming event.
Modern day society has trained us to look at this natural response as a sign of weakness, so we keep our bodies from going through the tremor response. However, allowing the body to tremor helps the muscles to actually relax and allow the tension to be released through a series of contractions and relaxation movements.
Developed by Dr. David Berceli, TRE® was first studied in large traumatized communities in Africa and throughout the Middle East. Dr. Berceli observed and began to understand that when our bodies naturally shake and vibrate it helps the mind to quiet while releasing muscular tension. This in turn helps the body to heal itself from chronic stress, tension, and trauma.
TRE® is a safe and effective technique in helping the body release stress naturally. Most people report an overwhelming sense of calm and well-being after only one session. The entire program can be taught through a series of 5 sessions and then used throughout a lifetime whenever needed, and because the tremor response is natural to our bodies, almost anyone can benefit from this technique.
